Eyemouth studio
After five years of running Wee Blue Press from home (and sixteen years working from home) I’ve taken a studio space 7 miles down the road in Eyemouth, on the top floor of a building belonging to social enterprise Retweed.
There are many reasons for this move, but the pandemic definately played a huge part. I was joined at home by my husband (working from home), and my three teenage sons (working from home) We were very lucky to have enough space, a wifi connection, and our health, but I found it very hard to focus on anything. I‘ve always wanted to be around for the kids, but as they get older my priorities are changing, and we all need more space.
As with many important shifts in life, the Eyemouth studio came out of a chance conversation. Retweed were looking for an ‘emerging artist’ to take on their studio space. The rent is very reasonable, and I’ve found the other staff in the building are all lovely people. I’m making new friends and widening my horizons. And I mustn’t forget the view - the front of the building is practically on Eyemouth promenade, and I can nip into the sea for a quick swim whenever I want. At the moment I’m managing to cycle there most of the time, so it’s also economical.
When I’ve settled in, I plan to offer lessons and studio visits, as it’s lovely place to visit and is big enough to accomodate 2 or 3 people. I have a press and separate areas for inking/carving etc and the light is gorgeous.
